Dr Lynn Margolies Psychologist Newton Ma
Dr. Lynn Margolies is a Ph.D. experienced, licensed psychologist and former Harvard Medical School faculty and fellow. She was trained (internship and post-doctoral work) at a Harvard teaching hospital and has been in private practice since 1989. Her experience is broad, having treated both high-functioning people experiencing life stress, transitions, crisis, depression, anxiety, relationship conflicts, as well as people struggling with more serious trauma or chronic conditions. Working with individuals, couples, and families, she offers consultation, brief or in-depth counseling and psychotherapy. Her approach is active and empowering with integrity and high standards of care. Dr. Margolies' treatment orientation is tailored to the needs of each individual patient. Her manner is skilled, respectful, empathic, strong, open-minded, caring, and supportive, with a sense of humor.

Dr. Margolies grew up in New York City and Puerto Rico. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Brandeis University in 1980, followed by a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Boston College in 1983. Subsequently, she earned both a Master of Arts degree and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University. She completed her internship and 2 year post-doctoral fellowship at McLean Hospital, during which time she was appointed fellow and later faculty at Harvard University Medical School in the Department of Psychiatry (from 1988-1996). Dr. Margolies was licensed as a psychologist in Massachusetts in 1989, following her work and training in the mental health field in various settings and capacities since 1978. At that time, she started what developed into a successful, full-time private practice treating adolescents, adults, and families facing issues such as: relationship difficulties, marital/couples/parenting/family issues, depression, anxiety, stress, grief/loss, women’s issues, college-age concerns, childhood/adult trauma, self-esteem/assertiveness issues, identity confusion, men’s issues, career/work issues, personal growth/spirituality.

Dr. Margolies has worked in inpatient, outpatient, residential treatment, and private practice settings, as well as provided consultation to the police, courts, hospitals, and universities. Her academic training, clinical and life experience, and personal style together give her the advantage of understanding and feeling comfortable with many types of people and situations.
