Dr. Margolies grew up in New York and Puerto Rico. Her academic training, clinical and life experience, and personal style together give her the ability to understand and relate to many types of people and situations without judgment.
Dr. Margolies has been in private practice for many years treating adults, teenagers, young adults and families. She has a broad range of experience in various contexts, settings, and therapy modalities, treating both high-functioning people at various junctures in their lives, as well as people with deeper struggles such as unresolved childhood trauma and other more complicated issues.
Dr. Margolies has also worked in inpatient, outpatient, residential treatment, inner-city, suburban, and private practice settings, as well as provided consultation to the police, courts, hospitals, and universities, and the press.
Dr. Margolies’ guidance and manner gives people a positive, productive experience in therapy. She is responsive and real, rather than formulaic, tailoring treatment to the immediate and ongoing needs of each person, using a respectful, active approach and providing explicit feedback that is usable and not mysterious.
Dr. Margolies has successfully helped many people through difficult situations – empowering them with tools to defuse conflict, improve their relationships with family members and others, overcome obstacles and self-defeating patterns, and enhance their lives.

She completed her clinical internship and a 2 year post-doctoral fellowship at McLean Hospital. During that time, she was appointed Fellow and then, Instructor in Psychology, in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard University Medical School.
Previously, Dr. Margolies received a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Boston College and a Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University.
Dr. Margolies is an established writer, recognized by the U.S Surgeon General, and dedicated to providing knowledge to the general public. With over 100 published articles, Dr. Margolies is known for making complex ideas understandable and accessible to everyone. Her articles provide practical psychological information and tools that empower people to know what to say and do to help those around them as well as improve their own lives.
Dr. Margolies is a Contributing Expert Author on Psychology Today (Therapy Insider featuring Dr. Margolies) Her articles are widely read. Previously, for many years Dr. Margolies was a Contributing Author on Psychcentral.com, voted to be one of the top 50 websites for psychology information by Time. She has also written columns for various publications including a parenting column for Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology Project Interface, a mental health resource for parents and teachers (now William James Interface Referral Service).
Dr. Margolies has been a presence in the media on the news, radio, and talk shows, commenting on current news events and a broad range of psychological issues. Her letters to the editor have been published by The New York Times and Boston Globe newspapers.
She continues to value new opportunities to provide psychological perspective to the media.
Dr. Margolies has been interviewed by the Boston Globe, Boston Magazine, WebMD, Boston Herald, Teen Voices, Women’s Health, the Massachusetts Psychologist, and the New England Psychologist providing information on topics such as: relationships, career, self-esteem, trauma, midlife crises, teens, pornography, professional issues in the psychology field, and other topics.
